Getting rid of bentgrass is a fairly simple, but ugly procedure. Since it creates solid patches in the lawn, killing the bentgrass will create solid, brown, dead patches.
Luckily, once we kill the bentgrass, it is pretty easy to reform the lawn and repopulate it with better varieties of cool season turfgrass. The easiest way is to simply punch holes throughout the dead area with a core aerator. After the holes have been punches, we then broadcast good quality seed throughout the areas. After some good watering, the new grass grows out of the holes, then fills in the surrounding area where the bentgrass had originally dominated.
